A fatal unit fire in the East of Queanbeyan has claimed the life of a baby girl.
Emergency services were called to a unit on Mowatt Street, Queanbeyan East, at about 2.45pm on Monday, May 2, following reports of a unit fire.
"The unit was found to be well alight," NSW police said.
"A 22-year-old woman and a three-year-old boy were rescued from the unit.
"They were treated for burns and smoke inhalation before being taken to Canberra Hospital for treatment."
Shortly after the fire was extinguished by Fire & Rescue NSW officers, the body of a one-year-old girl was found.
Three police officers were also treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Machete used in armed robbery
Police are continuing investigations following an armed robbery in Queanbeyan last Saturday, April 30.
Just after 1am, two men entered the BP service station on Yass Road, and threatened staff with a machete and metal pole, demanding cash.
"One of the men jumped the counter and grabbed cash and cigarettes, before entering the office and taking two mobile phones," NSW Police said.
"Both men then fled the store and were last seen running south on Yass Road.
"During this incident, one of the employees - a 31-year-old man - was struck over the head with the machete. No one was seriously injured."
Police responded a short time later and despite an extensive search of the area, they were unable to locate the offenders.
Detectives from the Monaro Local Area Command are appealing for the assistance of the public in their attempts to identify the men.
"The first man is described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, about 170cm tall, with a slim build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black balaclava, a black jumper with a grey hood, black tracksuit pants, white shoes, and white knitted gloves," NSW Police said.
"The second man was wearing a bandana over his face and a grey beanie with a read pattern, a black jumper, grey pants, dark shoes, and dark gloves."
Missing Moruya bushwalker found
A woman missing in dense bushland near Moruya has been located safe and well on Monday morning, May 2.
The 65-year-old United States national was last seen about 3pm on Saturday, April 30, after leaving for a bushwalk in the Deua Valley River.
She was reported missing about 9am on Sunday, May 1, when she had not returned from the walk.
Officers from Far South Coast LAC, with assistance from SES and Westpac Helicopter, commenced a wide-scale land and air search in the vicinity of the Deua National Park.
"The search continued Monday morning and the woman was located safe and well but will receive treatment from ambulance paramedics for some minor injuries," NSW Police said.
