Gemma Varcoe Some valuable signings and returns came to the Queanbeyan Tigers in the off season, but the football club is set to lose one of their most promising young players. Joshua McGovern, 18, will be taking a sabbatical from football in order to concentrate on his burgeoning softball career, at least for the next twelve months.
Gemma Varcoe For more than 18 years, the Jerrabomberra Tennis Club's home was a tiny shack. In 1997, Queanbeyan City Council handed two courts over to the club and at the time the clubhouse was equipped with a single toilet, lacking any space for further amenities. Today, after an eight month construction period, the structure is home to a modern kitchenette and a large, spacious and insulated viewing area that allows those inside to watch any of the matches playing out upon the club's six courts.
Gemma Varcoe The grass is greener on our side of the fence, at least according to Queanbeyan Golf Club head professional Jake Nagle. In his nine years on staff, Nagle has never seen the local fairway in such good shape and the golfer believes the current conditions are perfect for this weekend’s Open Day and the associated tournament which will be held on Saturday, February 6.
