Queanbeyan boasts about 100 SES volunteers who assist in floods and storms, not only in the region but across NSW and the ACT.
For SES volunteer Stephanie Rayment, she will be wearing orange on Wednesday not only in support of the service but to say thanks to her workplace, who allow her time off to volunteer.
“They’re really great with it all,” Miss Rayment said, of her work with Ciao Cafe and Cakes.
“If it’s not putting them under a huge amount of pressure, I’m find to do what I need to do to help out.”
Ms Rayment said she enjoyed being able to help the community.
“When you assist with a leaking roof or something, then just seeing that person down the street, they come up and hug you and give you a kiss and say thank-you. It’s a really rewarding feeling, just to be able to help people and give back.”
Queanbeyan SES public information officer Brent Hunter said orange is renowned as the SES colour.
Mr Hunter called on the community to wear orange on Wednesday and show their support.
“It’s nice for them to show their support for our volunteers who spend their nights, their days, all that time out and about, working for free. They do what they love to help people when their lives have taken a bit of a turn in the wrong direction.
“It’s nice to get that support back, we’re all in the same community.”
