Cape crusaders packed out the Queanbeyan Showground today to try and beat the current record of 1580.
However, event organiser and founder of charity Capes for Kids Heather Foggett confirmed they had narrowly missed out on breaking the record.
"Unfortunately we haven't [beat the record], we're a couple hundred under and that's ok. We've got over a thousand people here dressed up, who've come to support us," she said.
"Queanbeyan's put on a great day and we're really appreciative of the community and wider community for coming down and supporting us."
Ms Foggett said that while they had a great turn out, not all who attended had suited up in superhero gear.
"If we could get cosutmes on everyone here right now, we would probably triple the record. Unfortunately, we can't do it," she said.
But it hasn't deterred the Queanbeyan mother who has her heart set on going for the record again in 2016.
"We've learnt some things, we're going to do it bigger and better [next year]," she said.
All the money raised from the today will go towards Capes 4 Kids.
The organisation was founded just nine months ago and sends handmade capes to sick children providing them with an 'armour' to get them through hospital visits and tough times.
Capes 4 Kids has given away about 3,600 capes since it first began.
