JERRABOMBERRA artist Jenny Sheppard had always dreamed of a place where she could exhibit her dreamy landscape paintings rather than leaving them to languish and gather dust on her studio floor.

Exhibiting at galleries would prove too costly so Mrs Sheppard decided to renovate her home and use the walls of her family home to create 'Jenny's Art Space'.
More than 60 oil paintings are spread across the main room, which doubles as the family's living room, and flows into the kitchen/dining area and down a hallway leading into her home studio.
'Jenny's Art Space' has been a long time coming and was financed with funds left to Mrs Sheppard after her mother, Roma Fisher passed away five years ago.
The art space was officially opened last weekend to coincide with the artist's 59th birthday.
"I was pleased to do this because [my mum] was the one who encouraged me in my life to be an artist," she said.
"Even as a child when we went on holidays, she gave me paints to take down to the coast. I think she'd be really pleased with this."
The art space features adequate lighting to illuminate the art works. There is also access outside to a timber deck overlooking the Brindabella Ranges.
"I just wanted to make it as nice as possible for people to come here," Mrs Sheppard said.
"I want to be in contact with people more as I show them through. This means I'm not as isolated as I feel it's easy to be as an artist.
"You can have that social interaction with people and then you get feedback about what you're doing and that really helps."
Mrs Sheppard said her family has become quickly accustomed to living among the art works.
"This [my paintings] is my clutter. Other people collect things and have lots of ornaments but I'm very reserved about that, because I have so many paintings we can't have other stuff around," she said.
"A lot of the paintings usually sit on the floor in my studio room so it's good to have it hanging up at last."
Mrs Sheppard said having her paintings displayed helps feed her practice.
Her style varies from traditional, through to impressionistic with an emphasis on light and colour.
She paints local landscapes and likes to focus on the contrast of light and darkness in landscape rather than the detailed features of it.
"You look at your own work and you continue from that. It's like a starting point for the next one and then the next one. Sometimes other art work comes along and you also get inspired by that," she said.
"As a rule you feed off your own work to a large extent ... I can always see improvements and that gives you incentive to keep on going."
The art space is currently open by appointment and Mrs Sheppard said it will be like a revolving door of art works as she displays new material as she completes them.
The artist said as she doesn't have the overheads associated with exhibiting at a gallery she can afford to keep her prices low with paintings starting from $200.
Mrs Sheppard has plans to exhibit other artists in 'Jenny's Art Space' preferably in different mediums like woodwork and ceramic sculpture.
But it doesn't signal a complete end to exhibiting in a public space. In March, she will hold an exhibition alongside woodworker John Murphy at the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre Gallery.
