The fire ignited the Kinsella Street property just after 5pm on Friday, December 19. The owners were overseas at the time of the incident.
Queanbeyan Police initially treated the home as a crime scene while they investigated what sparked the fire.
Inspector Chris Varley said the home was "virtually destroyed" by flames.
"There was no evidence of suspicious activity," he told The Queanbeyan Age earlier this week.
"It appears an electrical fault caused the fire underneath the decking leading to the whole house being destroyed."
Both NSW and ACT firefighters brought the fire under control. No one was injured during the incident.
Radiant heat caused minor damage to a house next door, including a broken window and damage to some items just outside the house.
A car on the neighbour's property was also damaged.
"It was a major fire - the home is virtually destroyed," Insp. Varley said.
"It's not good time of year for something like this to happen. It was a good thing no one was hurt."
