It hopes to drive membership when it puts up a stall in Riverside Plaza from 8.30am to 3.30pm this Saturday, and club president Andrew Schmocker said regular competition at the club would not be viable unless it built from its current membership number of 120.

He said membership numbers had fallen over the years, citing a number of close to 300 15 years ago, and said the club's goal was to be able to enter Tennis ACT pennant competitions again.

"The membership drive has to start now, because tennis is now in its season, and this is our time to get people interested," Schmocker said.

Professional tennis coach Bronwyn Kitchener will be the club's head coach for another season, and her expertise will be on offer for free at Riverside Plaza on Saturday, with a coaching session planned for any new members who register.

She will hold training sessions for juniors on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, plus Saturday mornings, and will coach adults on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Schmocker said the club was open to people interested in competitive and social tennis.

"At the moment only a third of our members play club competitions regularly, so we'd like to grow that number too," he said.

The club will also hold its family and community day on November 3, where the club will be open to the public for free to play in various activities.

Meanwhile, casual court hire can no longer be organised through the Queanbeyan Bowling Club, in light of the clubhouse's closure.

A digital key box will soon be installed outside the main gate of the tennis club on Campbell Street, and interested patrons will be asked to contact the club to gain an access code and arrange payment.
