The driver has been taken to Canberra Hospital suffering a head injury after the horrific accident in Morton Street at 10.30am today.
The roof of the Holden Commodore has completely collapsed and all windows shattered. There were a set of P-Plates attached to the vehicle.
Queanbeyan Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash and whether drugs or alcohol may have been a factor.
A local resident, who wished to stay anonymous, said the man was very lucky to be alive.
The resident, along with other neighbours, helped the driver out of the car and provided first aid.
“He was pretty shaken he just had a cut to his forehead and arms. I got him to sit down as he was obviously in shock as he was shaking,” the witness said.
“I'd say he's lent to the left hand side of his car as it rolled otherwise he'd probably be dead.
"The roof was caved in almost flat above his seat. [I’m] not sure he realised how close to being killed he was.”
Neighbours claim the man was attempting a burnout during the time of the incident. This has not been confirmed by police.
It was lucky no one else was injured in the crash after a home owner had to “run for his life”.
The man had been mowing the front lawn when the car came towards him, the witness said.
Emergency services attended the incident and council workers arrived later to cut down the tree.
