Royal Jackpot ($12) was only slated as a second emergency but gained a run and then just pipped Poetic Debate ($21) in the final strides for fourth.

Inglis graduates wore different coloured saddlecloths to the rest of the field, which were led home by David Payne's Foreign Prince ($13) in a bold frontrunning effort under Winona Costin. But the $48,750 winner's cheque paled in comparison to the $100,000 bonus – plus $4150 for fourth – Royal Jackpot's connections scooped.

"He would have been a short-priced favourite at Goulburn on Tuesday, but once we had a look at the nominations we realised he was a realistic chance of winning the bonus," trainer Matthew Dale said.

"Then we rolled the dice on getting into the field and it was only at 7.25 [Saturday] morning we got the call-up. I knew he'd be in the finish, but I wasn't quite sure which ones were the Inglis horses. To get the job done on the line and win $100,000 is a great result for the owners. The initiative from Inglis to put it on is why it's the only full field for the day."

MAKE MINE A DOUBLE

If Team Snowden was a little disappointed with Inkling's effort, they couldn't have been happier with Blademeister after he scored a last-to-first win to complete a clean sweep of the two-year-olds' events for the training partnership at Randwick.

Josh Parr whipped around the field on Blademeister ($3.50 equal favourite), which was shopped at $6 in fixed-odds markets earlier in the week, to wear down last-start winner Testashadow (also $3.50).

Asked how the three-year-old staying prospect compared with classic contenders they had with Darley, Paul Snowden said: "He's right up there ... the ability's there.

"A little trip away [to Melbourne] for a horse like him will definitely let him grow up and mature a lot quicker. He can't sit in the paddock ... it's too long. He's not overly taxed, he's still in very good order and he's still on the way up. He's got to learn how to race properly."

DEAD SET CLOSE

An announcement from the host broadcaster convinced Kris Lees and Chris Waller to shake hands on a dead heat, but it was the former who was the only one celebrating after Oriental Lady nosed out Saigon Tea in the third.

They were happy to settle for a share of the spoils at Randwick, but after a prolonged wait the judge semaphored Lees' Newcastle Cup-bound Oriental Lady as the winner.

"They said it was a dead heat and I thought, 'I'll take that'," Lees said. "I shook Chris' hand as it came over [as a dead heat]."

Oriental Lady ($5.50), which has cricket star David Warner as part of her ownership, rallied back after being headed by Saigon Tea ($2.05 favourite) in the straight to get the decision.

Lees is yet to win his home-town cup and said Oriental Lady would be a much better prospect in the autumn. He chalked up a double with Brenton Avdulla after Gold Epona rushed along the rails to win one of her final starts before heading to the breeding barn.

QUEEN'S HORSE WORKS WELL

Carlton House is still likely to have another exhibition gallop plus a barrier trial before a Cox Plate campaign after making his first public appearance since the autumn at Randwick on Saturday.

The Queen's horse galloped solo under Tommy Berry before the first race, working home in 37 seconds for the final 600 metres.

"He just ran home by himself and relaxed very well," Berry said. "He quickened up well down the straight and he's a happy horse. He pulled up well and didn't have a massive blow.

"I don't think he's there yet. That wasn't very strong work, he only cruised around out at his own leisure and I didn't put him under any pressure. He's a bit of an athlete anyway and pulls up well most of the time."

Gai Waterhouse's rising seven-year-old is still searching for his first win in Australia, but was only nabbed late by Silent Achiever in the group 1 Ranvet Stakes and ran third to It's A Dundeel in the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Stable foreman Mark Newnham said Carlton House's first-up task was undecided, but could be in Sydney or Melbourne.
