Laurence Charles Finley, 20, appeared briefly in the Queanbeyan Local Court on Friday morning, charged with murder and using an offensive instrument with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Police say the alleged murder took place after an argument between Finley and the deceased, aged 43, at a Queanbeyan service station on Lowe Street last month.
The argument ended, police say, and the two men parted ways.
But Finley allegedly came across the victim again about 30 minutes later as the younger man drove along Cooma Road in Karabar.
The argument allegedly reignited, with further words exchanged between the two.
Police allege Finley then did a U-turn and drove at the older man, running him down.
The man was taken to hospital in Queanbeyan with apparently non-life threatening injuries.
He was later discharged. But, on Sunday, friends discovered the 43-year-old's body at a home on Currie Street.
Police charged Finley with murder on Thursday, alleging that the injuries he caused by running the older man led to the death.
Finley did not apply for bail on Friday, and his lawyer Andrew Herring sought an adjournment to allow for the brief of evidence to be served by the prosecution.
The court heard the second charge, using an offensive instrument with intent to commit an indictable offence, is likely to be withdrawn at a future date.
The matter will now be transferred to Goulburn Local Court, and is expected to be heard on March 19.
The brief of evidence is expected to be served on February 21.
