The fire started at about 2.15pm on Tuesday afternoon, with numerous fire crews on the scene from ACT Rural Fire Service, NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW Fire & Rescue.
There are about 40 firefighters currently battling the blaze, as well as 10 fire engines. At last report, the fire was about eight hectares in size.
District manager for NSW RFS Lake George Tim Carroll said the fire was at the back fences of several homes in the area.
"It’s currently at a watch and act level, so if [residents] do see any fire that is unattended by firefighters can they call triple-zero," he said.
He added there is a build-up of traffic in the area, and that people who had no need to be in the area shouldn't enter it.
A spokesperson for NSW Fire and Rescue advised residents in the area to be careful and make sure they've reviewed their bushfire survival plan.
