You can find the page at www.facebook.com/qbncity. The Christmas spirit is catching and I’ve noticed some of the businesses in the CBD already have brilliant Christmas window displays.
Make sure you put 5pm Sunday 15th December in your diary and come down to Queanbeyan Park for Carols in the Park. There will be performances by the Sing Australia Choir, Fantastix, Impressions Dance and Fitness and Shenanigans. It will be a great family evening.
The Gift weekend
CONGRATULATIONS to everyone involved in last weekend’s successful Queanbeyan City 175th Birthday Gift carnival. The event was held over two-days for the first time and caught the attention and imagination of many.
Sunday’s Family Fun Day, which was held in conjunction with The Gift, was also an outstanding success. The weekend was a credit to organisers, participants and the community.
I’d also like to thank the media in Canberra and Queanbeyan for getting behind the event and the Gift ambassadors Lauren Boden, Melissa Breen, Evan O’Hanlon and Scott Reardon.
Congratulations to Maddie Coates from Melbourne and Angus Gould from Canberra who were winners on the day and special congratulations to Cranky the Cow, who came up trumps in the high-profile mascots’ race.
Moducks & Movember
WE’RE still just in ‘Movember’ and if you’ve been wondering what all the Clark Gable style moustaches you’ve seen about town are about then head to http://au.movember.com/about
Very simply Movember is a charity which raises funds and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer and mental health for men through the novel idea of having men grow moustaches during the month of November.
Council has a number of ‘Movember’ teams and this Saturday one of the teams, the famous ‘MoDucks’ from the Aquatic Centre is having a barbeque to raise funds. The barbeque is between 11.30am and 1.30pm at the Queanbeyan Aquatic Centre. All welcome.
Parking near Schools
FOLLOWING extensive consultation with the residents of Bangalay Street, near Karabar High School, Council has recommended a ‘No Parking – 8am – 4pm – School Days’ zone for the length of Bangalay St, on the eastern side of the road. Meanwhile concerns about the safety of Queanbeyan High school drop-offs along Agnes Street have prompted Council to agree to conduct a community survey for a proposed 2.5m parking lane to be installed on one side of Agnes Avenue, between Early Street and Surveyor Street.
Also, just recently I have received representations about road safety concerns at Jerrabomberra Primary School during drop-off and pick-up times. A review of parking and no stopping arrangements will be undertaken and also Council rangers will continue to monitor at these times.
