THEY performed as solo artists for more than a decade before linking up but it was only ever a matter of time before Queanbeyan hip hop performers Nathan Carter and Michael Weir joined forces.

The duo, who also just happen to be brothers in law, are the creative force behind Stik n Move, an all-Queanbeyan group whose new mix tape ‘Feed’em’ is set to drop on Friday.
Carter, who goes by the stage name Too Deadly and his counterpart Weir, or Wizz, have been performing locally for years and are well known for their numerous appearances at Queanbeyan City Council events.
Last year saw them unite for the annual NAIDOC on the Peninsula event and a collaboration – Stik n Move – was born.
“I think it became apparent that neither of us was going to drop off the scene so we might as well join forces,” Carter said. “Being so close to each other in terms of family as well, it was probably inevitable.
“I think [the partnership] grew out of an appreciation of each other and of getting to the point where we both had a lot of respect for each other’s music.
We’ve both reached the same point where we’ve got the same goals when it comes to music so we thought we’d have a crack at it together.”
Since then, Stik n Move has been working on producing a raft of original content with the aim of releasing a debut album later this year.
Carter, who will also be releasing a solo EP next month, said the message of the group’s music was to “unite and empower”.
And he said Feed’em, while not a full album, would give fans both old and new a taste of what’s to come from the duo as they take their partnership to the next level.
“We’ve performed at a lot of events over the years but now it’s about stepping up and actually putting out a polished product,” Carter said.
“The content is quite serious and real, they’re not throwaway lyrics. But at the same time it’s very funky, very soulful, enjoyable music that’s quite uplifting.”
“A lot of the music that’s out now seems to be very, here today, gone tomorrow kind of stuff. We’re trying to make music that people can get something out of, that educates or that lets someone know that they’re not alone.”
Stik n Move’s debut mix tape will be available free from the group’s Facebook page from Friday.
