Ben Edwards produced one of the finest heavyweight performances ever seen in this country to nullify Paul Slowinski in a unanimous points decision victory.
But it's the efforts of another Queanbeyan lad that had the crowd on their feet in appreciation.
Spiro Black has been touted as one of the finest cruiserweights Australia has ever seen.
And he put on a show for the massive crowd at the Convention Centre with a dominant 4th round technical knock out of New Zealand's Eden McGrath.
In the process, Black extended his perfect unbeaten record to 13 fights for 13 wins and won the heralded International Sports Kickboxing Association (ISKA) South Pacific Cruiserweight Title.
This belt now sits proudly alongside his ISKA Australian Cruiserweight title and the World Kickboxing Association NSW state title that he has in his possession.
This fight was to be the last kickboxing bout of Black's career as he looked to move sideways and pursue a future in boxing.
But an interesting twist on the night means Black will likely step into ring once more as a kickboxer to proudly defend his belts.
In August last year at Capital Punishment 6, Black was due to square up against another promising fighter who also boasts an undefeated record, Simon Maait.
Unfortunately and unavoidably, Black had to pull out on the eve of the fight with illness, leaving Maait none too impressed.
Following Black’s win last Sunday, Maait took to the ring in true World Wrestling Entertainment style, grabbing the microphone and openly calling out Black to a contest.
In doing so, he cited the disappointment he felt following the late postponement last year.
He was careful to state that he “wasn't disrespecting” Black by calling him out, but it sure felt like it and the packed house roundly jeered Maait for his gamesmanship.
"It doesn't bother me" said Black when I quizzed him after the win about the surprise move from Maait.
"He made a bold move by calling me out but that's only going to motivate me more to beat him when we finally square off. I’ll be training extra hard in preparation for him should it all go ahead".
A bruising grudge match awaits and this one will be a long time simmering when it comes around. Expect another spectacle.
