More than $2 million in drugs was seized in a seven month police sting aimed at disrupting the supply of cannabis, MDMA, heroin and cocaine from Sydney to Byron Bay and southern Queensland. Detectives arrested six people on September 5 across NSW and Queensland after a series of raids and one staged alleged drug deal. Police were waiting at a carpark in Carrara on the Gold Coast when a 33-year-old Broadbeach man and 32-year-old Mermaid Waters arrived in an Audi with the alleged intention of selling drugs to undercover officers. The Broadbeach man allegedly tried to run from police but was arrested after a short chase on foot. The Mermaid Waters man was arrested in the driver's seat. Police said around 360 grams of heroin,150 grams of cocaine, cash and mobile phones were seized at the scene. Houses in Mermaid Waters, Mermaid Beach, Broadbeach and Southport were searched along with a storage facility at Surfers Paradise and car at Varsity Lakes. Steroids, heroin, prescription medication, around 260 grams of cocaine and 6.7 kilograms of cannabis were allegedly among the items seized. The Broadbeach man was charged with three counts of trafficking dangerous drugs, four counts of possessing dangerous drugs and two counts of possessing or receiving property obtained from trafficking dangerous drugs. The Mermaid Waters man received the same charges and was additionally charged with three counts of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime. IN OTHER NEWS: In NSW, police raided seven houses on September 5 including properties in Five Dock, Ashfield, Tweed Heads, Tyalgum, South Murwillumbah and Dum Dum which ended in the arrest of three men and a woman. A 26-year-old man from South Murwillumbah was charged with 63 offences including 47 counts of supplying prohibited drugs, three counts of supplying prohibited drugs to child and supplying a large commercial quantity of prohibited drugs. A 25-year-old woman from South Murwillumbah was charged with 20 offences including 12 counts of taking part in the supply of prohibited drugs. A man arrested at Dum Dum in NSW's Tweed Shire was charged with 11 offences including two counts of stalking or intimidating with the intent to cause physical harm. A Tweed Heads man, aged 55 years, was charged with eight offences including three counts of supplying a prohibited drug.
