It's a British spy thriller set in 1963 and based on the book by Len Deighton.

It sees Harry Palmer dodging military prison by being offered a gig as an intelligence officer in an elite unit - because that's what would happen to a guy about to be sent to jail.

The Ipcress file in question is the case of a missing British nuclear scientist the elite team is investigating.

From there I don't really know what is happening - tonight's offering is episode three and I found it really hard to follow.

Which is my fault, obviously; I'd jumped in after the plotline had already started.

While the plot was a mystery to me, I was able to enjoy the incredible attention to detail from the set design and costume departments.

They've really given the show the feel of the 1960s and in an understated way too.

So if you tune in, you might not be able to understand the show, but at least it's pretty to look at.

If you're starting a four-part series on what recreational drugs do to us, the legal ones are always a good place to start.

It's always guaranteed to shock us to be reminded that the legal ones, the ones the government taxes, the ones we can buy down at the shops, are actually the worst for us.

Of course, we're talking about the ciggies and the booze here.

Surely there isn't a person in the country who would be shocked to discover cigarettes aren't good for you.

But there might be a few dropped jaws from viewers when they find out just how dangerous alcohol can be.

We see that as an acceptable drug and don't realise the big downsides - for instance, it's a carcinogen just like smoking.

If you drink too much it can actually have an anaesthetic effect and cause you to stop breathing.

Oh yeah, and there is research to suggest it could be a cause of dementia.

That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the health impacts of booze - so if you figured it was way better than smoking, you might need to adjust your parameters a bit.

It's worth tuning in, just to discover the risks you're taking when you neck a few coldies.

Might not make you change your mind but it's still stuff worth knowing.

Okay, there was some real potential here in this series about a moody cop who discovers the body of his daughter is under that sheet in the morgue.

That's not really a spoiler as it happens about five minutes into the first episode.

Before that, Danny (played by James Nesbitt) is your standard driven copper.

After that discovery, the over-acting comes to the fore with him waving around a scalpel demanding the surgeon carry out an autopsy.

The first episode of Suspect goes silly quite quickly.

And silly enough to turn me off the rest of the series.
