'Kiss Me, Kate' shows by the Queanbeyan Players at The Q had to be cancelled last month after the Covid outbreak led to an increase in the restrictions.
The Queanbeyan Players are now planning to stream the show online for those who have missed the performance from August 13-15. They have a recording of the show that was taken by a videographer.
Alison Newhouse, president of Queanbeyan Players, said that those who missed out on watching the show can see it online.
"Cancelling the show led to the disappointment in the community who were waiting to watch the show. It is also disappointing for the Queanbeyan Players as well as we are a not-for-profit and rely on funds to run our other shows," she said.
"Through online streaming, we now have an opportunity to reach out to more people including those who are overseas and will be able to watch the show with their friends and family members."
Alison said that they would still want people to come to the theatre and enjoy the musical show but until then online streaming is a good way to reach out to the audience.
Natasha Vickery, marketing officer-performing arts and events at The Q, agrees with Alison and feels that the online streaming will help include the members of the community.
"We can extend the joy to as many people as possible in the community," she said.
'Kiss Me, Kate' is the Broadway hit musical written by Bella and Samuel Spewack with music and lyrics by the brilliant Cole Porter. It was Porter's response to Rodgers and Hammerstein's 'Oklahoma!' (QP's third production for 2021) and other 'integrated musicals' and was the first show he wrote in which the music and lyrics are firmly connected to the script.
The show opens with a theatre company preparing to stage a musical version of William Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew'.
This is a classic golden-era musical comedy but refreshed for and set in the 21st century starring Janelle McMenamin (Hello Dolly!, Next To Normal) as Lilli/Kate, Adam Best (Barnum) as Fred/Petruchio, Sammy Marceddo (We Will Rock You, 42nd Street) as Lois/Bianca and Nathaneal Patterson (Les Misérables, Cosi Fan Tutte) as Bill/Lucentio.
Tickets for the show are $15 and you can book them here.
