Operational Plan, Fees and Charges and Revenue Policy adopted: At the extraordinary Council meeting on June 30 the Operational Plan, Fees and Charges and Revenue Policy for 2021-22 along with a new tariff structure for Palerang communities water and sewerage schemes and the QPRC Waste Strategy were adopted. At the meeting, some changes were made to the Operational Plan to improve our budget position including the removal or deferral of some capital and operational projects. A proposed $700,000 cut to local road renewal, proposed in recognition of a significant amount of work being undertaken with disaster recovery funding, was not proceeded with. This increased the total transport budget for 2021-22 to more than $23m. The Smart City Working Group projects, Queanbeyan Honour Walk expansion, customer satisfaction survey and QPRC website upgrades were put on hold. The Operational Plan includes a capital works program of $179m which is fully funded by a combination of capital grants, developer contributions, new loans and reserve funds. Christmas in July postponed: Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation across NSW the Christmas in July Markets have been postponed. The event is now scheduled for Sunday 19 September at the Queanbeyan Showground. The warmer weather will provide a great opportunity to be out and about in Queanbeyan where locals and travellers can enjoy a wide range of stallholders, gifts and goods. Updates will be posted on the Facebook event here and we hope to see everyone there.
Have your say on Monaro Lanes: In May 2021, Council was successful in securing $505,701 in funding from the Your High Street program to improve safety and functionality in two key pedestrian laneways in the Queanbeyan CBD. The planed rejuvenation of Blacksmiths Lane and No Name Lane aims to support local businesses and improve community safety and comfort for pedestrians. In this next stage of consultation, we want to hear from anyone who uses these spaces. The proposed work in these laneways includes upgraded paving, increased lighting, greenery, seating, and dedicated public art. The concepts can be found on our Your Voice page where you can have your say on the project. The link is here.
Towards 2042 community consultation: Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 situation, we have had to postpone our in-person community consultation for Towards 2042. This consultation aims to make sure our Community Strategic Plan reflects what you need to thrive and grow into the future. You can get involved by responding to our online survey here. While we don't know if we will be able to hold pop-up consultation activities at this stage, we want to hear from as many in the community as possible so please get involved in the online survey.
