National Sorry Day: National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as 'The Stolen Generations'. A Sorry Day event was held at the Queanbeyan Bicentennial Hall to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on the healing process for our people and nation. The lunch was an opportunity for First Nations people to share stories and reflect on steps that have been made, and those we can continue to make towards reconciliation.

World Environment Day Activities: As part of world environment day we are hosting a wide variety of free events to get people thinking about their ideal '2040'. There are six free events that are online, in Braidwood or in Queanbeyan and cover topics from horticulture through to frogs. The major event is a free showing of the award-winning film '2040'. The film is rated G and popcorn is available making it perfect for young and old. There will also be time for conversations and queries about the film and actions you can make to improve your sustainability day-to-day. For more information on each event head to bit.ly/WorldEnviroDayQPRC.
Cat Containment Area: Council has adopted the amended Cat Containment Area Policy for Googong and Jumping Creek. This Policy will affect future subdivisions of these areas, with roaming cats treated in a similar way to dogs. Owners will be required to have their cats confined to their property or maintain effective control over their cat outside the property boundary. This policy aims to improve the safety of native wildlife, especially vulnerable species that exist around Googong. We will consider applying the Policy to future greenfield developments across Queanbeyan-Palerang after broader consultation with the community. Council will also advocate to the NSW Government to consider a review of state-wide rules relating to roaming cats.
QPRC Art Awards: Last night, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council hosted the 2021 QPRC Art Awards Ceremony at The Q Exhibition Space.
