The defending champions are well placed in second spot, one point behind leaders Melbourne City with a game in hand heading into Saturday's away match against Perth.

Sydney have scored at least twice in each game, bar their 1-0 loss to Western Sydney when they created a hatful of chances.

For all their attacking spark, Sydney have been uncharacteristically generous defensively, failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their five games.

O'Neill nominated that area as one Sydney could improve as they seek better performances despite their handy start.

"That's something that we can definitely tighten up," O'Neill said.

"If we're getting that amount of chances and the ball that we've had throughout the year, we can definitely score upwards of three four, five goals in a game.

"We've got options galore going forward and I think that's been a big strength of ours this year,.

'We've not only held the ball, we've played on the counter attack.

"Sometimes we've got in behind the defence, come short, we've played to feet, so there's a lot of things that (opposing) teams have to look at this year."

Known for his defensive qualities, O'Neill has also sharpened the attacking side of his game, providing a league-leading three assists.

"I've worked tremendously hard with our strength and conditioning guru Chris Pappas in making sure I'm not only a defensive midfielder, but I'm a box-to-box midfielder," O'Neill said.

"I want to add that to my game, I want to add goals, add assists."

Sydney face Glory for the first time since beating them on penalties in last May's grand final in Perth.

"Instead of a grand final rematch, it's more like a grand final to-do list (item) for us, we want to make the grand final this year and go on and win it," O'Neill said.

Last season's Premiers Plate winners, Perth are sixth with one win from five games and six points behind Sydney.

"Points-wise they look like they've had a slow start, but they are still playing good football and moving the ball well,' O''Neill said.
