Queanbeyan Whites players didn't pay much attention to the crowd that gathered at their weights room last Thursday.
They were too focused on lifting spanking-new weights to worry about who was watching.
But they took time out to listen to Member for Monaro John Barilaro as he officially opened their new change room and gymnasium.
The state government poured $400,000 into the project at Campese Oval to construct a new building boasting a women's change room, toilets, a weights room, as well as a new storage room. The grant also allowed the club to extend their canteen.
Whites president Ian Darmody said the club had planned to construct an "8x10 Colorbond shed" but the council required the building to be brick.
"We didn't have that sort of money, so we approached John (Barilaro) in 2017 for a grant," Mr Darmody said.
"It all happened pretty quickly from there. Funding was approved in 2018 and construction began last August.
"Before this upgrade, our change rooms and facilities were congested and our equipment had to be stored all over the place."
Mr Barilaro said he was pleased to see the facility come to fruition.
"The club will be able to carry out strength and conditioning training, rehabilitation, promote injury prevention and perform comprehensive fitness testing right here at Campese Oval," Mr Barilaro said.
"The Whites are part of the fabric of the Queanbeyan community and I look forward to seeing the club go from strength to strength."
