Council meeting: Council's next meeting is on Wednesday, October 23 in the Bungendore Council Chambers. Items on the agenda include a review of the Googong Urban Development Local Planning Agreement, a project to install a solar PV system at the Riverside Tourist Park, considering the Bicentennial Hall as a base for the Australian Wind Symphony, application for funding for the Queanbeyan Junior Brass Band, the draft QPRC Community Engagement Plan and more. Intergovernmental Agreement: At the Local Government NSW annual conference last week, the NSW Government and Local Government NSW on behalf of the local government sector signed an Intergovernmental Agreement. This commits the local government sector and the NSW Government to cooperation and working together on the strategic direction to achieve strong communities through partnerships. Some of the features of the agreement are that the NSW Government will consider budget cycles and financial capabilities of local government when required to provide new or expanded service, an annual meeting between the Premier, Deputy Premier, Minister for Local Government and LGNSW to discuss strategic initiatives, commitment to work together as drivers of change and improvement and more. The Intergovernmental Agreement is in place until March 2023.
Australia Day nominations: Every year on Australia Day, we recognise the citizens and events that have contributed to our community. Nominations are now open for Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year and Event of the Year. Awards will be presented in Bungendore, Braidwood, Captains Flat and Queanbeyan. Regional Art Award winners: Congratulations to this year's winners of the QPRC Regional Art Awards. Linda Denning won the Regional Art Award for her charcoal drawing Into the Night, Holly Treadaway won the Emerging Artist Award for her drawing on paper Vickie and Patrick Morison won the Hive Exhibition Award for his painting Sweetheart. Voting for the People's Choice Award is open now, with this award to be announced on October 31. With 54 quality entrants this year, make sure you check out the exhibition and record your vote. The exhibition continues until November 2 at The Q, weekdays 10am-4pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm.
