Our next public meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 25 at 7.30pm at the Raiders Club in Weston.

The Minister for Climate Change and the Environment in the ACT, Shane Rattenbury MLA, will outline the new policies on the 'ACT Climate Change Strategy 2019-25' together with the 'Canberra's Living Infrastructure Plan: Cooling the City' that have now been finalised. These policies set out how government will work with the community and businesses to achieve a resilient, net zero emissions ACT.
We are also seeking confirmation on a presentation on the proposed Coombs Play Space.
Last month there was an excellent and detailed presentation and discussion on the Molonglo River Reserve Management Plan. You can see this on our website at westoncreek.org.au.
Council met with Minister Steel in relation to a number of matters including the proposed 150 temporary car parking places to be provided on the open space behind the bus stop on Parkinson Street, possible locations for Park and Ride, the bridge over the Molonglo River and the lack of shops in Coombs and Wright. We also asked for more timed parking at Rivett shops to assist the shops there and that the change rooms and toilets on Rivett Oval be upgraded as they have not changed for 40 years.
We also met with The Village Building Co on their revised proposal for the development of the Old AFP site. The company has taken some nine months to move the plan through the consultation process with government. It is expected that the plan will be finalised soon and will be lodged with ACTPLA. We will advise residents when this occurs.
Good news that a new proprietor is now in the supermarket in Denman Prospect and it has re-opened. That is a good outcome for residents.
Council has written a lengthy submission in relation to a development application in Chapman, questioning the decision to place supportive housing within the bushfire prone zone. We will await the decision on this, though council strongly recommended not building the housing here but on another block within Chapman or Rivett.
At the AGM last month we saw both our long standing secretary, Jenny Adams and treasurer, Chris Wilson stand down. Both have provided sterling service to the Weston Creek and Molonglo communities over the years. We thank them for this service. We also welcome new members and thank them for coming on board.
If there are issues that you wish to raise or discuss, please phone the council on 6288-8975. Otherwise, to keep up-to-date with all issues affecting Weston Creek, please monitor the Weston Creek Community Council's website or follow us on Facebook.
