North Canberra Community Council members, and other residents of north Canberra, are invited to the the council's August meeting. The meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Wednesday, August 21, in the Downer Community Hall, Frencham Place, Downer.
City Renewal Authority chief executive Malcom Snow will give a presentation on the City Precinct Renewal Program that was launched on July 5, and which sets the authority's directive and vision for the next 30 years.
The program encompasses over 420 hectares. It includes Canberra's earliest areas of urban settlement, as well as undeveloped land which forms the West Basin waterfront. The program is of interest in relation to the "urban village" that is proposed around the intersection of Northbourne Avenue with Macarthur and Wakefield Avenues.
The meeting will consider what issues need to be addressed in the review of the Territory Plan.
We will also discuss the first draft of a new constitution, that would formally establish the council as the peak body for north Canberra's residents' associations.
Committee positions
The committee has appointed Jochen Zeil as deputy chair, Bruce Smith as treasurer and Chris Finnigan as acting secretary.
