Queanbeyan floodplain information session: The Queanbeyan Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan is on exhibition for public comment until September 20. The study and plan defines flooding patterns and flood levels in Queanbeyan under the present day conditions. It recommends risk management measures to reduce impacts of flooding in Queanbeyan. Comments on the study and plan are invited. The council is holding a community information session on Tuesday, August 27 from 6.30-8.30pm at the Riverside Clubhouse, 16 Carinya Street, Queanbeyan. There will be a presentation about the study and plan at 6.45pm. You can view the document online at yourvoice.qprc.nsw.gov.au

Art award judges: The 2019 Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Art Awards judges are Queanbeyan artist, Alex Asch, Braidwood Regional Art Gallery president, Margaret Hickey and director of Suki & Hugh Gallery, Susan Foxlee. Helen and Simon Ferguson from The Queanbeyan Hive will choose for 'The Hive Exhibition Award'. Entries in any medium including works on paper, photographs, sculpture, textiles, painting or mixed media are invited from local artists. The exhibition will be held from October 15-November 5. Entry forms and all the details are available on the council's website.
Rural Road Safety month: It is a timely reminder that August is Rural Road Safety Month, an awareness campaign run by Australian Road Safety Foundation focusing on safety for drivers on country roads. The evidence from NSW shows that while country residents make up one-third of NSW population, two-thirds of all fatalities occur on country roads. We place our courtesy speed check trailer on roads in our region to encourage safe driving. It has most recently been on a section of Nerriga Road. If there is a road you think would benefit from the trailer, you can contact the council's road safety officer.
Planning and Strategy meeting: The August Planning and Strategy Committee meeting is on Wednesday, August 14 in the Queanbeyan Council Chambers from 5.30pm. Items on the agenda include a development application for a proposed boarding house in Queanbeyan, an application to renew caravan park approval in Sutton, a number of land-use planning reports, consideration of an outdoor dining policy and more. The full agenda can be found on the council's website at www.qprc.nsw.gov.au.
