Jobs to do in the garden this week
- Prune passionfruit if needed once the fruit has been picked. Congested vines can be thinned out, otherwise just shorten overlong lateral growth and lightly trim all over with garden shears,
- Give stone fruit trees a dressing of nitrogen, either sulphate of ammonia or urea, as soon as the harvest is finished. If the nitrogen is absorbed by leaf fall it will be available for early fruit and leaf growth in spring.
- A reminder that winter greens are attacked by a range of voracious caterpillars. Look out for tell tale holes in the leaves or brown or bluey-green droppings. Without control there will be little to harvest. Spray under and over the leaves with Baythroid Advanced Insect Killer for Gardens.
