Reconciliation Walk: You are invited to mark National Reconciliation Walk by walking through Queanbeyan in unity. This year's Reconciliation Walk is on Tuesday, May 28. The theme of National Reconciliation Walk 2019 is "Grounded in Truth, Walk Together with Courage". The theme emphasises the truthful representation of Australia's colonial past and the strengthening of respectful relationships as we move forward into the future. Our youth will proudly represent their school and community and all are welcome to join us at 10.15am for the walk from Trinculo Place along Monaro Street to Queanbeyan Park.
Community meetings: Last week we held our first community meetings of the year in Queanbeyan and Braidwood. They were well attended and we discussed a broad range of items, including those raised by the community along with updates on local projects in the area, council's draft integrated plans and the integrated transport strategy. Changes to offices: We are seeking comments from the community about potential changes to the council's Bungendore and Braidwood offices. In line with council's digital economy and smart community strategy, we're looking at creating smart hubs in Queanbeyan, Bungendore and Braidwood. In Braidwood, to accommodate a smart hub, it is proposed to co-locate the current customer service area with the library desk and change the point of public access to council services to be through the library entrance. The front part of the building would be renovated to include smart hub facilities and community meeting space. In Bungendore, the proposed changes are to accommodate more staff into the Bungendore office. To achieve this, the relocation of the customer counter into the foyer area is proposed, enabling office areas behind. Utility mapping: We are currently undertaking a project to map all of our water, sewer and stormwater assets in the Queanbeyan and Jerrabomberra area. Many of these assets lie on private properties (industrial areas, residential front and backyards) and staff may need to access your premises. The aim is to precisely verify our asset network which will assist in day-to-day works and help update the mapping of the network. Staff will not enter any premises if no-one is at home.
