"Let's not get carried away."
That was the first thing the Queanbeyan Kangaroos coach Aaron Gorrell said to his players after their 54-10 thrashing of the Yass Magpies at Seears Workwear Oval on Saturday, May 5.
The Roos were in dreamland from the get-go, completing their first 10 sets and scoring four tries in that time.
The game was all but settled at the end of the blistering first half, with the home side leading 30-0.
The Magpies quickly scored the opening try of the second half in what Gorrell put down to complacency, but the Roos dug deep to come out 44 point victors.
"Half time can be the best thing for you or it can be the worst," Gorrell said.
"Today the first half was very pleasing, but we went back to our old ways in the second half and we should have gone on with it.
"When you come up with a first half like that, you want to play 80 minutes straight, but I think we just relaxed a little bit.
"To the boy's credit, they muscled up and turned the second half around."
The well deserved win was their first of the season and Gorrell was glad his side did not have to play catch-up, which had been the case in their previous games.
We need to gain a bit of a relentless attitude.

"In the past two weeks, we have given up three try head starts and we tried to chase," he said.
"Our main aim today was to try to put some scoreboard pressure on and I think we did that very well.
"We're also very happy with scoring over 50 points."
Roos winger Kaine Pagura bagged himself three tries on the day, while centre Bryan Cronan and second rower Nukurua Ngere scored a brace themselves.
The main focus for Gorrell heading into next week is to play well for the entirety of the match.
"We know what we can do, but we're just not doing it for long enough periods at the moment," he said.
"We need to gain a bit of a relentless attitude."
The Quenabeyan Kangaroos play the Woden Valley Rams next Saturday.
