The return of the Queanbeyan Yowies' women's team on Saturday March 9 at the Queanbeyan Basketball Stadium resulted in what coach Brian Demmery called "one of the best wins I've ever been involved in."

The Yowies took to the court against the Shoalhaven Tigers for their first match in three years, and managed a dramatic 74-73 victory which was underlined by a refusal to crumble in the dying minutes.
In three minutes of overtime, when the match hung in the balance, the Yowies were reduced to four players on the court.
Despite being up against a well-drilled Tigers side (who were also semi-finalists in 2018), the Yowies held on to their slim lead to claim a heart-stopping victory.
"The adversity those girls went through ... was just - they were amazing, they really were," Demmery said.
The scene on the court was one of "pandemonium" once the match was over, Demmery added.
"People [were] jumping and screaming. For the first win of the season, with some of our more senior players out, it was fantastic.
"I didn't even know it was possible for some of them ... I think we can beat anyone now."
While that match resulted in ecstasy for the home side, the men's match which followed was a much harder pill to swallow for the Yowies.
The men fell to a hard-fought 67-80 loss against Shoalhaven following the women's game, and coach Peter Herak said that the match was a lot closer than the scoreline showed.
"I think the main thing was we were down by one with about five minutes left to go in the game," he said.
"We were right in the fight until about five minutes to go and just fell away towards the end of the game. If we manage, like the old cliche says, to put a full 40 minutes together, we'll more than likely win a game."
However, the men managed to redeem that loss last weekend on Saturday March 16 against the Bakstown Bruins, with a 69-53 result which proved that they are truly a force to be reckoned with.
The Yowies men will next play the Wagga Wagga Blaze, in Queanbeyan on March 23 from 4.00pm, to be followed by the women against the Blaze at 6.00pm.
