On the coast, things have been quite grim for the Bermi region out wide; most anglers are still struggling to catch a legal kingfish, and marlin have just about vanished.
The reefs have also been quite hard with loads of leather jackets destroying gear. Thankfully, the sand flathead have been thick so getting a feed is still a great option.
Eden to Mallacoota is where the game fishing has been best; multiple fish feeding on bait balls has been a regular occurrence. Covering more ground with extensive teasers, then switch-baiting, has resulted in plenty of hook-ups.
The Bay and Ulladulla have seen some better reef fishing, with lower numbers of leather jackets ruining a good session. Micro-jigging and correctly weighted plastics are the best options.
Mountain rivers - like Eucumbene and Jindabyne - and also the mountain creeks, are coming alive thanks to the recent downpour; this is creating perfectly murky water and a false sense of security for the fish.
Fly anglers have caught some fantastic fish in fast-moving water, while spinning in slow-moving pools is also producing the goods.
Burrinjuck had a few slow weeks over the heat wave, but after recent rain things are picking up. Schools of yellows have been found on the shaley rock formations and holding tight to submerged tree branches.
Gold and chartreuse have been the colours that are producing, and bobbing with yabbies have also landed quite a few fish.
Some nice Murray cod have been landed in the Goodradigbee arm on sunrise.
