Queanbeyan golfers recently scored a significant double in Central Southern Golf Association competitions, with Fran Miller and Karen Ebsworth taking out the CSGA Gala Day competition at the Braidwood Golf Club, while Pauline Jeffery won the ACT Seniors Championships.

A ferocious gale, cold temperatures and the threat of a dust storm failed to dampen the spirits of Ebsworth, who said that she and Miller had “good fun” despite the awful weather at Braidwood on November 22.
“It was a lot more casual than a lot of the comps, but we had fun.”
It was not Ebsworth’s first time playing at the Braidwood course, and she said that despite its reputation as a friendly course, it could challenge even the most weathered player.
“It’s quite a tricky little course. It’s rated a lot easier than what it is, it’s quite difficult,” she said.
“Local knowledge helps, I’m sure.”
The Queanbeyan pair finished with a score of 74.25, which was a strong result considering the intensity of the weather on the day.
Meanwhile, Jeffery’s victory was announced on November 16, following a competition which took place across the Queanbeyan, Gungahlin Lakes and Federal Golf Clubs.
It caps off what the CSGA described as a “stellar” year for Jeffery, who won the Seniors Championships by 12 shots to go with a victory at the Gungahlin Lakes Open and selection in the Australian Seniors Team.

There were a total of 82 golfers in attendance at Braidwood, which was significantly above the club’s initial estimate of 50 or 60.
The annual CSGA Gala Day is hosted by a different club every year, with the aim of raising funds for a local charity.
This year, the Braidwood Life Centre was the beneficiary of over $1,000 raised through the donation of green fees and the proceeds of the raffle following the Gala Day.
