As we start to see some better (and warmer) weather in the capital it’s time to also be more vigilant with snakes around our favourite water holes.

I for one have already spent two days in hospital after a bite while fishing around Lake Ginninderra a few years back, and on Monday afternoon it was a close call to be back in the ward again.
So please be mindful that snakes are out and about!
The upper reaches of the Molonglo have started to warm nicely, and in turn is producing some nice, fat reddies and some very healthy goldens.
The mouth of the Molonglo at the entrance to LBG has also been producing some good fish; lure anglers have had a good run with black ZX blades and black grubs, while bait anglers have been catching carp by the truck load.
Lake Ginninderra has also started to warm nicely and is starting to yield some good reddies - using celtas and small vibes with a hint of red has proven to be quite effective.
The bass season has kicked off quite well with the favourable weather, and the top of the Morya River and Brogo have all been fishing reasonably well.
Small spinner baits and plastics have been catching most of the fish. Last week saw some very nice flathead caught in Burrill Lake and Durras Lake and boats reported using 100mm blood worm wrigglers.
They worked their lures next to sand bars at dead low tide and scored well, and these anglers also reported using lots of catch scent but wouldn’t divulge the secret to their success.
