Over the course of the afternoon, the Monaro District Police were assisted by the SPG Dog Unit and Monaro Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.
The combined force screened vehicles for illicit drugs trafficking through Queanbeyan and the surrounding district.
The operation was conducted under the authority of a General Drug Detection warrant.
Queanbeyan is a major traffic hub for tourists and goods into the snowfields and South Coast.
The ACT-NSW border adds an extra complication to policing the flow of illicit drugs to major tourist areas.
Monaro Police have already seized a variety of drugs including cannabis, cocaine, dexamphetamine and psilocybin mushrooms.
Police preferred charges against four persons for their possession of prohibited drugs and issued seven others with cannabis cautions. Charged were:
- a 22-year-old female from Roseville in Sydney, who was found to be in possession of dexamphetamine pills;
- a 34-year-old male from Mangerton in Wollongong, after being located with cocaine;
- a 28-year-old male from Kingsgrove in Sydney, with offences relating to cannabis; and
- a 28-year-old male from Concord in Sydney, with possessing a quantity of psilocybin mushrooms.
Police will be continuing operations and urge people to consider the legal and health ramifications of using and dealing illegal drugs.
