Lots of anglers are still fishing deep – vertically jigging – and landing great fish.
This would actually be one of the best winter sessions I’ve seen in Lake Burley Griffin.
Schools of reddies have been very easy to find and natives aren’t too far away either.
I worked a Rapala jigging rap next to a submerged tree near Yarralumla and struck gold; nothing huge but it was a start.
The next three jigs I got very good hits and on the fourth it was game over.
My 1-3kg stick and 4lb braid just didn’t cut the mustard against this suspected Murray cod.
I also fished the upper Molonglo and again struck gold; I found the fish sitting around weed beds in six to eight metres of water.
I chucked at least 10 different lures trying to entice the strike – nothing.
Finally decided to rig a Squidgy prawn with a beetle spin and cover it in catch scent – bang! – fish on.
Eucumbene continues to fish well. Lots of rainbows are starting to make their way closer to the mouth of the Eucumbene River, ready to spawn.
Fish have been responding well to the colour red – red celtas, red wobblers... you get my drift.
Bear in mind that the water level is dropping fast and the mud is ridiculous.
Tantangra is also fishing quite well from the bank with artificial power bait.
