Integrated Plans: The council held an Extraordinary Meeting of Council last week to adopt our integrated plans. We received around 80 submissions on the draft documents and the council resolved to provide additional funding for a number of projects including the upgrade of irrigation at Mick Sherd Oval, Bungendore; sealing of Saleyard Lane, Braidwood; part funding for a playground at Royalla; development of an off-street carpark at Barracks Flat Park, Queanbeyan; development of a QPRC Tourism Guide; and storage facilities at Brad Haddin Oval in Queanbeyan and Rockley Oval in Googong. These projects will be spread over the next three years.

Council head office and smart hub: The council’s new head office and proposed smart hub in Queanbeyan will be constructed at 257 Crawford Street and will be designed to adjoin The Q and Bicentennial Hall with an integrated foyer to link the three buildings. Council staff have been inefficiently housed in 11 different buildings across the CBD.
The new office will be five levels to accommodate 200 staff while allowing for 10 percent growth, and will include meeting rooms, a smart hub/co-work space, as well as additional lettable office space for 100 tenancy staff. The smart hub provides space for new business start-ups in an incubator environment, as well as space for agency staff to operate from Queanbeyan. Designs, development applications and tenders for construction will be undertaken over the next 12 months, with construction expected to be completed in 2020.
Braidwood CBD and Ryrie Park: After 18 months of engagement on different elements of the designs, the council adopted the design principles for the Braidwood CBD and Ryrie Park Master Plan, taking into account submissions received. Further consideration is to be given to new toilets. The Master Plan has a scope larger than the improvement project being funded with $500,000 from the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund and will be used to guide future works in Braidwood.
Smart City Precinct: The Queanbeyan Smart City Precinct project was awarded to Telstra Corp after a tender process. Council was successful in gaining grant funding in the Australian Government’s Smart Cities and Suburbs Program. The project will include free public Wi-Fi, smart street lighting and parking, CCTV, environmental sensors and 3D digital city modelling.
