- Prepare to collect autumn leaves as a component of future compost; as mulch for garden beds or a leaf mould for potting mixes. Shred the raked foliage on the lawn with the mower and either store in tough plastic bags or in a space made from tomato stakes and chicken wire.
- Cover ponds with wire netting to protect from leaf-fall. Ensure that house gutters near trees are protected with leaf guard.
- Pumpkin seeds are highly nutritious and a good source of vitamin E, which raises the question how many kilos of seeds are scraped into the compost bucket rather than a roasting tin?
