Anglers can sign up for the Canberra Native Cup on the night, from 5:30pm, for their chance to take home $1200 cash. And considering how good the fishing has been lately, it should be an absolute cracker of a competition!
It should be an absolute cracker of a competition!
Cod have been very active – scrub worms have been great bait and for lure anglers, the trusty stumpy has caught some good fish.
Yellows have been holding tight to snags and in amongst the thick weed. I've found a 3" grub rigged Texas-style (making it weedless) has been very effective. Other plastics to try are Squidgy Prawn in black and gold, or cracked pepper.
Redfin have been relatively easy to catch using small minnows with black or red profiles, or the trusty celta will work well - try it around Yarralumla Play Station as these lures have been working a treat there.
On the coast, Marlin action is still HOT. Plenty of fish have been caught, tagged and released to fight another day for another angler!
Deep droppers have been catching some nice ling as of late, too.
In the estuaries (now that the crowds are slowing down) more jewfish are being caught. Using a floating pillie, salmon or taylor fillet, a live yukka or a slimy mackeral should do the trick.
