United’s 15-year-old Amy Sayer hit a second-half rocket to put the home side ahead 2-1, before English import Laura Basset fired in a third to seal the result.
The win sees Canberra jump to second on the W-League ladder on equal points with Perth as Heather Garriock's side remain unbeaten at McKellar Park after five rounds.
United were missing veteran Michelle Heyman and teenage sensation Ellie Carpenter away on Matildas duties, but the women in lime green didn't miss a beat without their two best players.
Leading into the contest Garriock said they were yet to hit their straps and the United mentor still believes her players have plenty of room for improvement.
"We're at 60 per cent, we started off the game well and were outstanding in the first 20 minutes and that's the first time we've started on the front foot," Garriock said.
