A basic mammogram is an X-ray of your breast tissue and they are very worthwhile having every two years, but there are ways to increase the certainty further.
Canberra Diagnostic Imaging offers a comprehensive breast imaging service with an onsite radiologist to provide same-day reporting and intervention if necessary.
Their state of the art equipment includes world-leading technology, with 3D mammography, ultrasound, MRI and vacuum-assisted biopsy all on-site.
That means a comprehensive approach to your imaging all in one place.
“Our digital 3D mammography has been proven to detect 42% more lesions than traditional mammography methods” explains John McCarthy, ACT area manager.
“Typically” he continues, “ultrasound and mammography are performed together. Each modality individually is 90 percent effective in finding most lesions. Used in conjunction they are 98 percent effective.”

They also have a 3T MRI on site if further investigation is warranted. “This represents the gold standard in breast imaging. Using magnets 60000 times stronger than the Earth’s magnetic field, we can safely and accurately detect and diagnose different types of tissue.” Then, “if any lesions are found, we can perform a biopsy on site.”
For certain types of lesions “we can perform a vacuum assisted biopsy. The biopsy site is flushed and vacuumed during the biopsy to prevent the accidental seeding of malignant tissue into the bloodstream. Using this technique, we can actually excise small lesions.”
He declares that “quality, and more importantly your health, shouldn’t come at a price. All mammograms and ultrasound are bulk billed.”
They also have “Affordable pricing for MRI and biopsy (with) concessions to those supported by the Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group.”
They would like to close by saying “A big thank you to Melissa Gardiner and her team at the Eden Monaro Cancer Support group. This is a fantastic local charity who’ve provided support to those affected by breast cancer for over 30 years.”
