For this article, Nancy Barnes from Keeping it Green tells us about the various commercial applications that are possible.
The short version is that the variety of products available, combined with a bit of creativity, means it’s very versatile.
“We’ve done all sorts of things from shop fitouts to hotels and bars, with different colours and textures.
“Recently we installed some at a nice greenery place in Woden on the benches.
“We’ve even gone to a place in Sydney and put in on the ceiling of the men’s toilets”, which certainly added some novelty to the venue.
Other indoor applications have included walls and there are many more colours, textures and lengths than mere variations on green.
“We’ve done big unit areas” notes Nancy. One example was a central hub entertainment area up on the third floor.
The additional advantage of artificial grass, beyond that of no need to get a mower up in there, was there was also “no need for a waterproof membrane”.
Nancy also points out that the coloured products can be used as an alternative to carpeting.
They’ve created such things as animal cutouts, underwater themes and other visual effects with it.
You can have a hopscotch court with squares in different colours as well.
Other examples are some more conventional applications you may have thought of like the playing areas in child care centres and schools.
As with the residential uses, there’s no need for a lot of water to maintain them, and no problem with allergies or weeds either.
One current client is creating a large and convincing jungle theme inside a warehouse for kids, and therefore all the plant life needs to be synthetic, especially the grass.
Synthetic grass is even hire-able for shows, corporate events, and festivals like those held in spring.
They’ve helped create displays with Nissan at Mount Panorama in Bathurst and Sydney Motorsport Park at Eastern Creek.
They’ve worked on temporary displays in the Upper House of parliament, Martin Place and Westfield.
There was one time that someone hired the Hoyts cinema at Fox Studios in Sydney and needed a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory theme for their three year old’s birthday (and a large number of guests).
It’s been used in creating themes at school fetes, for the CEO Sleepout charity event, and themes for Melbourne Cup Day.
