In 1986 he established his business credentials as a builder and has expanded to become a consultant offering business success advice to transportation, new-generation manufacturing, building and technologies companies.

Mr Wholohan is very aware of the financial pressures that many in our community face everyday.

He has spent 23 years in the Queanbeyan-Jerrabomberra area and he views standing for local government as a chance to take leadership and “deliver quality results for all in our community”. 

“We need to make Queanbeyan a destination of choice,” he said. 

He said there was no getting around the fact the Queanbeyan CBD was “dead” and now was the time to take action to “make the town better and function better for a prosperous future”. 

One major challenge ahead for the council was to ensure fair representation, particularly to serve the interests of town with smaller populations.

While Mr Wholohan has no plans to uproot from the spot his three daughters call home, he said he’d experienced being a “fringe dweller”. 

Living in the Tinderry Mountains on farming land he was on the boundary of two shires and lobbied hard for road upgrades and regular rubbish collection. 

“This is a completely new model,” he said.

Council was “no longer an urbanized money tree” and would be required to manage road works, infrastructure projects and more complex funding partnerships.

“For people in outlying areas the numbers just aren’t there,” he said.

“But you can manage the council and develop a strategic direction that benefits everyone." 

Mr Wholohan places great importance on giving back to the community.

He has been a long-term member of Rotary, currently serving as director of youth services with the Rotary Club of Jerrabomberra.
