The barrister, who specialises in criminal, civil and commercial law, has called Queanbeyan home since 2012.
He embraces the tagline “country living, city benefits” and feels the approachable vibe is one of the greatest things about the district.
Hailing from the relaxed NSW north coast, he appreciates a place where “when you say G’Day they don’t look down and continue to walk, they say G’Day back”.
Mr Moffett is a first-time candidate with serious ambition.
He has carved out time from his legal practice in readiness to commit to a local government role.
“I’m really interested in getting a cinema to Queanbeyan,” he said. “Secondly, I want to get that road to Captains Flat completely sealed.”
Mr Moffett said a small change such as sealing the road would maximize day trip tourism to the area and bring money into local business there.
There is a large field of independent candidates running in this election and Mr Moffett welcomed taking part in a competitive process.
Running as an independent was important and he felt QPR United was a distinct collective of politically unaligned, experienced, and commercially-minded candidates.
“There is no way I can get caught up with toeing a party line,” he said.
“If people have concerns they can approach me directly with the confidence that I’d take any issue of interest to them or the community more generally to the council.”
