Googong remains on the top of the list with some solid goldens caught amongst schools of reddies. In saying that, redfin continue to be an easier option at this time of year at Googong. There has been similar fish behaviour in the Molonglo, with anglers using their sounders to find the bigger, deeper schools of reddies and vertically jigging in and around the school. This method of fishing opens the door to catch Murray Cod, golden perch, redfin and carp. Mixing up lures and the speed of retrievals enables you to get the most out of the school. Jigging a smaller profile lure like 2-3 inch grub or Squidgy Wriggler, for instance, will catch a great array of fish and majority on the smaller end of the spectrum.

Stepping it up with a bigger plastic, vibe or even the addition of a beetle spin to the equation hopefully allows you catch the bigger feeding fish in your location. These bigger fish should be fired up by activity of other smaller fish being caught. By targeting the smaller fish first (especially with goldens) you can manage to pull a few of them of the school before targeting the bigger fish. This can be the difference between catching five fish, or one. Just to add a different dimension to the equation, have an unweighted yabby rigged on a long shank hook, sitting 1-2m off the bottom slowly drifting towards the school.
