The redfin fishing in and around Canberra is excellent. Lake Burley Griffin, Yerrabi Pond and Googong Dam have been hotspots, with fish over 40cm reported.

To add spice to the mix, quite a few small cod and fat yellowbelly are hitting lures destined for reddies.

One angler lost his prized Stumpjumper lure when a little Burley Griffin cod broke his light line while he was having fun with a school of redfin.

Anglers fishing for reddies at Yerrabi report regular encounters with solid yellas up to a couple of kilograms.

Plummeting temperatures and a bit of rain has fired up the trout in the Snowy Mountains.

Small pods of fish up to a couple of kilos are entering the Eucumbene River, with the Denison area attracting increasing numbers of anglers.

The genuine run of fish, though, still hasn’t started.

Remember, the road into the river is off limits to vehicles from the Denison campground, with anglers now having to walk about 300 metres to the water.

Rock and beach fishing on the coast is outstanding.

Tailor, salmon, bonito and small kingfish are being caught up and down the coast, mainly on baits and lures fished from the stones.

At Moruya, anglers report seeing massive schools of tailor and salmon herding baitfish into the shallows around the breakwall.

At South Durras, salmon and bonito have been taking lures around the rocks on the making tide.
