Looking forward
The key tasks for the council to achieve this year include to determine and progress major projects under the $9m Stronger Communities Fund. Funding has been provided to new councils by the NSW state government; progress systems integration; implement the organisational structure; finalise and implement the new branding; develop a new website that will be a one-stop shop for residents; complete the asset and service reviews - to inform the long term financial plan; develop the community vision and priorities for the draft Community Strategic Plan - for the new council to consider and formulate its three-year delivery program; prepare and adopt the 2017-18 Operational Plan and budget
Summer at Q-One
In a series of events hosted by the Q-One team, an inflatable outdoor movie screen will display a children’s movie from 8pm at each of the pools. The events start at 4.30pm with games and activities, followed by a free barbecue at 6.30pm. These will be held at the pools in Captains Flat on January 25, Bungendore on January 26, Braidwood on January 27 and Queanbeyan on January 28. On Sunday January 29, the Q-One Indoor Sports Centre will host the Australian Open men’s tennis final.
Australia Day
Australia Day awards ceremonies will be held at Bungendore, Captains Flat, Braidwood and Queanbeyan. Bungendore will host a barbecue breakfast at 7.30am, followed by the awards ceremony at 8am. At the Captains Flat Community Hall a morning tea will be provided by the community association. The Braidwood Serviceman’s Club will be the venue for the Braidwood awards and for lunch at midday. The day concludes with a citizenship ceremony and the Australia Day awards in Queanbeyan Town Park, where we will be joined by this year’s Australia Day ambassador, Australian Rugby Sevens captain Lewis Holland. The official ceremony in Queanbeyan runs from 4.30-6pm, which will then be followed by a free family celebration event, with live music, children’s entertainment, food and drink and capped off with a fireworks display at 9pm.
