James (Buckles) Gibbs was treated at the scene for an hour on Thursday morning before being transferred to the Canberra Hospital.
Racing NSW steward Ben Gray reported Gibbs was “unconscious for a period, has a suspected neck injury and no feelings in his legs”.
On Friday morning, Racing NSW Dr David Duckworth reported Gibbs was being transferred to Sydney.
“James is being transferred to Prince of Wales Hospital under spinal surgeon, Dr Ralph Stanford,” a statement from NSW Racing said.
“MRI scans show a cervical disc protrusion but with no signal change in the cord, and no haematoma. Sensation in James' arms and legs is slowly returning.”
“There is some movement in his hands and feet (improved from none), but no movement proximally. James will be assessed at Prince of Wales to decide if surgery is necessary.”
