October events
Final preparations for the big weekend of events on October 28-30 are in place.
The weekend includes the annual Clearwater Sculpture Prize, with sculptures installed around the Queanbeyan River able to be viewed throughout the weekend. The River Festival headlines Saturday, with boat races, the Enviro Expo, lantern making and stand-up paddle boards some of the entertainment available. The Art Trail continues the exciting weekend on Sunday where participants will be able to gain exclusive access to artist’s studios in Queanbeyan, Braidwood and surrounds. Tickets are available for a bus tour of the artist’s studios from The Q.
The Brad Haddin Oval
Brad Haddin himself will be in attendance at the official re-naming of the Queanbeyan Town Park Oval to The Brad Haddin Oval. The renaming continues a long and proud tradition in Queanbeyan of naming sporting facilities in recognition of the sporting achievements of the city’s finest sporting stars. Brad played his junior cricket in Queanbeyan before becoming one of Australia’s most successful wicketkeeper-batsmen.
Pool refurbishments
Council staff and contractors have been hard at work getting the pools ready for the summer season. In Bungendore, refurbishments have been completed. Both Braidwood and Captains Flat pools are well on their way towards completion. The pool season will start on October 29. Season passes are available from the council in Braidwood and Bungendore and Queanbeyan Aquatic Centre.
Australia Day awards
Nominations are open for the Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Event of the Year. Nominations close 5pm, December 7. Award winners will be presented at events in Queanbeyan, Braidwood, Bungendore and Captains Flat. Nomination forms can be found on the council’s website.
