Wimbledon has concluded with Serena Williams winning the women's singles final as expected.

In the men's singles, Canada's Milos Raonic triumphed over Roger Federer but was no match for Andy Murray in the final.

Le Tour de France continues. Highlights have been spectacular crashes, classic sprint finishes and constant breakaways.

Mark Cavendish has reigned supreme in the sprints, but most exciting was when Greg Van Avermaet successfully broke away and in winning a stage - for the first time - also took the yellow jersey and held it until the Pyrenees when last year's winner Chris Froome broke away on the last climb to win and lead the race.

In stage 10, Canberra rider Michael Matthews, riding for the Australian Orica team joined a breakaway after the start and won the sprint home for his first stage win.

Euro 2016 produced some unexpected results. Iceland, exceeding all expectations, qualified for the finals and although eliminated by France, celebrated their greatest win ever by defeating England.

France went on to win against the German super team to qualify for the final against Portugal who despite losing their star player in Ronaldo to injury, won 1-0 off the back of an incredible strike from former Swansea forward Eder.

The third State of Origin rugby match has resulted in a narrow win in the dying minutes for NSW, to avoid a whitewash. The performance by the NSW Blues though has been below standard in recent years and there is no sign that significant improvement is on the horizon.

Last week the ACT Brumbies travelled to NZ to play the Auckland Blues. Although the Brumbies are leading the Australian conference, the Blues gave them a master class in rugby winning 40-15.

A few days later the NSW Waratahs (at home) were defeated in an equally convincing manner by the NZ Hurricanes.

As the Waratahs are also near the top of the Australian Conference, things do not look good for the Bledisloe Cup match set to be played between the Wallabies and the All Blacks next month.
