Several year 8 students arrived with sleeping bags piled high, ready to spend a night at school for the Winter Sleep Out project.

The project is similar to the CEO Sleepout where business executives spend a night on the streets to raise awareness for homelessness.

Before bedding down for the night, students visited homeless services around town and raised money at Riverside Plaza.

Student, Marcus Campbell said he was expecting to be cold and uncomfortable during the night.

"We're sleeping here to represent homelessness and how they cope through winter.

"I'll probably learn that being homeless wouldn't be easy," he said.

His friend James Kirkland, said he will learn that "there's more to life than playing the Xbox."
