Local businesses and community members are gearing up for the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal on Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29.

In its 51st anniversary, volunteers from around the country will be knocking on doors to raise money for disadvantaged Australians.
The Queanbeyan Salvos branch hopes to raise $20,000 in the region, which will contribute to a national goal of $74 million.
Local businesses are contributing to the cause.
Westpac will be acting as the official money counters to account for the funds raised, and Riverside Plaza will be hosting a community stall on Saturday to take donations.
Westpac Bank Manager, Kanika Singh-Walia said she’s proud to be supporting the Red Shield Appeal.
“It’s an important cause that has helped over a million Australians in times of need,” she said.
Marketing Manager of Riverside Plaza Sarah McDougall said the complex is a long time supporter of the Salvation Army.
The Riverside stall will also have face painting for children for a gold coin donation.
Volunteers are asked to donate a few hours of their time on the Red Shield Appeal weekend, to help the Salvation Army provide assistance to Australians doing it tough.
